Laboratories Construction in Humera and Maychew

UI Design Evolution

News Details

This ESIA study, conducted in 2023, evaluates the environmental and social impacts of constructing two Biosafety Level-2 (BSL-2) laboratories in Humera and Maychew, Ethiopia. The project is implemented by the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) and financed by the World Bank Group (WBG) under the Africa CDC Regional Investment Financing Program (ACDCP). The laboratories are part of a broader initiative to strengthen Ethiopia's infectious disease detection and response systems by establishing regional reference laboratories. The ESIA, conducted by Basal Consulting, assesses potential impacts across construction, operation, and decommissioning phases and proposes mitigation measures in compliance with Ethiopian national laws, World Bank Environmental and Social Standards (ESS), and IFC Environmental Health and Safety Guidelines. The study ensures environmentally sound and socially responsible implementation while enhancing the country's public health infrastructure and capacity for specialized testing.

The Skeuomorphic Era

Skeuomorphic Design Example
Early iOS design showcasing skeuomorphic elements

Skeuomorphic design dominated the early years of digital interfaces, attempting to mirror real-world objects in digital form. This approach helped users transition from physical to digital interactions through familiar visual metaphors.

As users became more comfortable with digital interfaces, design began moving towards simplification. Flat design emerged as a reaction to the ornate details of skeuomorphism, emphasizing clarity and efficiency.
