Addis Tomorrow Special Economic Zone Phase I Project

UI Design Evolution

News Details

This ESIA study evaluates the environmental and social impacts of the Addis Tomorrow Special Economic Zone (ATSEZ) Phase I Project in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The project is a joint investment initiative by the City Government of Addis Ababa (CGAA) and the China First Highway Engineering Group Co., Ltd. (CFHEC), officially launched in August 2024. The assessment, conducted by Basal Consulting, covers the development of multi-purpose buildings including residential apartments, commercial centers, office spaces, and underground parking facilities, with a total gross building area of 44,711.12 square meters. The ESIA examines potential impacts across construction, operation, and decommissioning phases and proposes mitigation measures in compliance with Ethiopian national laws, including the Environmental Impact Assessment Proclamation (No. 299/2002), the Environmental Pollution Control Proclamation (No. 300/2002), and other relevant regulations. The study ensures environmentally sound and socially responsible development while maximizing benefits such as employment creation, income generation, and enhanced urban infrastructure.

The Skeuomorphic Era

Skeuomorphic Design Example
Early iOS design showcasing skeuomorphic elements

Skeuomorphic design dominated the early years of digital interfaces, attempting to mirror real-world objects in digital form. This approach helped users transition from physical to digital interactions through familiar visual metaphors.

As users became more comfortable with digital interfaces, design began moving towards simplification. Flat design emerged as a reaction to the ornate details of skeuomorphism, emphasizing clarity and efficiency.
